Firework Safety With Animals

June 26, 2012

Fireworks can be very enjoyable for humans, the bright lights, the look on the kids faces, and the celebrations that go along with them, but for animals they can be etremely scary. Here are some tips to keep your furry friend a little less frightened, for all other questions contact your veterinarian:

  • Make sure your pets hiding space is available for them to go to with there favorite toy or blanket, so that they have a comfortable spot.
  • During firework season, walk your dogs during daylight and keep your pets indoor when you know that fireworks are going to be set off.
  • When fireworks are lighting up the sky, put on music for your companions.
  • If your pet looks afraid, try to ignore the behavior and give them their space unless they show signs of hurting themselves.
  • Consider having your pet microchipped in case the loud noise startles them and they run away.

Comfort for your pet is very important. Remember, their ears are more sensitive then ours so try to make them as comfortable as possible, and enjoy the fireworks.
